Open Source Project Rescue Engine is live

Ashipped by AxelScreenshot of Open Source Project Rescue Engine

A web-based platform designed to help developers discover GitHub repositories that have become inactive, outdated, or under-maintained and may benefit from renewed community involvement.

The platform connects developers with potential open-source contribution opportunities by analysing repository activity and presenting useful project health signals, including stars, open issues, contributor activity, programming language, README availability, licence information, and recent commit activity. Users can search for repositories using keywords and review a simple Rescue Opportunity Score that highlights projects with positive maintenance and contribution signals. A dedicated discovery area also allows users to explore dormant and stale projects using creation-date filters and different sorting options. The goal of the project is to make open-source contribution more accessible by helping developers identify projects where their skills could have a meaningful impact. Instead of relying solely on popularity, the Rescue Engine encourages users to investigate projects that may have valuable code, unresolved issues, or opportunities for new maintainers. Built with Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and the GitHub REST API, the project demonstrates how live developer data can be transformed into a practical discovery and decision-support tool. The Open Source Project Rescue Engine ultimately aims to turn forgotten or overlooked repositories into opportunities for collaboration, learning, maintenance, and community-driven revival.
